Visiting the 9/11 Memorial in NYC
Earlier this week we went down to the site of the World Trade Center to visit the 9/11 memorial.
I filmed a short clip for those who are interested in seeing the site. Unfortunately I have cut off the first few seconds of the video so please let me introduce it here…
I’m standing in front of the former south tower looking at the memorial….At the very start of the video and again at the 1.35min and 2.03min mark the building in the shot is the site the new, major World Trade Center building that is still under construction.
Have you been to the World Trade Center, before or after 9/11?

I haven’t been but I would imagine it would be quite sobering, seeing all those names and considering the site’s history…
Wow. Thanks you for sharing. We intend on visiting next year and I was quite nervous about it, but it looks amazing. So beautiful and peaceful (even with so many people about).

So sad, yet so beautifully done

I was in NYC a month before it happened. I didn’t go up the towers because visibility happened to be very poor on the day I had available, but I have some photos of them taken from the ferry. I left NYC on 11 August, and left the country on 2 September, so it felt very surreal when it happened. I had been there so very recently.

Thanks for sharing this. It does look very respectfully done. I hope to eventually visit yet again one day. The space seems so open now, an interesting, but understandable choice for a city with a high premium on real estate. It was obviously much less so when more buildings stood at the site. I wonder if they are going to move that battered sphere that I last saw sitting in Battery Park in 2006 back to the site near where it used to be situated. I remember that sculpture from when I visited in 1999.

Thank you for this Louisa. They have certainly made it a nice place for reflection.
It is an event that changed the world forever. Tell me – have the families of the deceased had input into the memorial?
Thanks for sharing this Louisa. This is a great place to visit. We should always remember the heroes who spent their lives to save all the American people.
I will never forget the haunting television footage I awoke to early that September morning. I was morbidly fixated on the all aspects of media related to 911 for months after, it really affected me. It must have been a truly moving experience visiting the memorial. :-) B
