One Aussie Family does New York City
We are exactly half way through our time in New York and its been fantastic! I filmed a little vlog to tell you about it…
* Visiting FAO Swartz and making our own muppets.
* Having a peanut butter milkshake from an old fashioned diner
* Seeing so many famous landmarks and places from classic movie
* Meeting my beautiful blog buddy, Cece from The Big Girl Blog and chatting all things love, life and blogging!!
* Having Little Bear throw his beloved monkey and his shoe into the middle of 5th avenue during peak hour, watching them be run over by cars and then bringing them home, washing them and pretending it didn’t happen
* being able to get the kids down and then go out for a stroll or shop (not both of us at the same time, obviously!)- Greenwich Village is incredible!!
* All the public spaces and playgrounds & the fact that there is always something happening to go and do and see.
Tonight is going to be another highlight as we have a babysitter coming and we are going out without the kids!!
Thanks so much to Colgate Australia for sponsoring me to attend Blog World New York which made all this possible.

Wow sounds so awesome, I can’t even imagine going there, it must be so surreal to visit a place that is so big, famous and featured in so many movies etc. Enjoy the rest of your time! :)

It’s wonderful Sharon – I highly recommend it for a family holiday!
There is SOO much about New York I love! I’ve been three times for between 2 weeks to a month at a time and I’d go back again in a heartbeat. There is such a buzz about the place. There is so much going on in such a small area but then you can jump on a Staten Island Ferry or wander through Central Park and take a breather from the hubbub. I could go on and on about the food, the shopping (especially if you are there during those amazing sales), the fascinating and informative Big Onion tours, the museums and galleries (LOVE the Met!), Broadway, etc.. I think one of the other reasons New York has left an imprint on me also is because I was there before 9/11 and went back soon after 9/11 (I was actually due to visit in October 2001 but cancelled for obvious reasons). I also had a close friend who was living there during that time. So both those things have made a deeper connection for me than many other places I’ve visited. Enjoy your last moments there! I hope the weather has been kind and not too hot or humid yet.

We went to the 9/11memorial and it’s quite amazing and beautiful – I filmed a short segment there so will pop it up on the blog this week. I can imagine how that makes a stronger connection; my sister had been in NY and visited the Twin Towers just a few days prior to 9/11 – it still feels like such an unimaginable thing to have happpened….
Wow! Your sis must’ve felt she had a close shave. I went up to the WTC observation deck too, though two years before 9/11, and rememember it vividly. My photos and brochures make it even more tangible. I still took my round the world trip in October 2001 and experienced the 9/11 aftermath from different perspectives which was deeply moving. When I went back in 2003, they were still clearing the site of debri and messages from loved ones and shocked locals were written all over the surrounding fences. Nearby St Paul’s Chapel was a memorial site with more messages, photos and glass cases of people’s personal belongings. I spent ages soaking it all in. If you’re interested, I wrote two tribute posts about my experience last Sept – Ten years on – Remembering 9/11 and Wordless Wednesday – Hope in New York After 9/11. I look forward to seeing your video.
