What’s In Your Wardrobe?
Let me start this post by saying that I am no fashionista! If you’ve met me in person, it will be blindingly obvious that I don’t care about fashion trends and the like. I buy what I like and think suits me, when I can afford it.
Over the years I’ve increasingly adhered to the saying “You get what you pay for” and have opted for fewer, better quality items over lots of cheap stuff. After Bliss was born I really decided that I needed to live in the moment and stop waiting for the time I would able to wear x, y or z. I decided I could be a Mum, not be a size 10 and still look stylish and I started to buy clothes that I loved, regardless of whether they were on the front page of a Country Road catalogue. Now, I still would never describe myself as stylish (nor would anyone else) but I no longer care because I feel happy with my clothes and I have picked up several pieces that I really love…
Exhibit A – I love this green jacket!
BUT I also hate to throw things out and so can find myself with a wardrobe stuffed full of goodness knows what, feeling like I have absolutely-nothing-to-wear.
On Saturday I culled. Hard. Two garbage bags full of clothes that I either don’t like anymore or that I like but never wear. Gone. And a drawer now full of maternity clothes that have been put away and will not be worn again until there’s a baby in my belly!
I was left with this…

Oh my gosh, my pants are hanging up! I have room to hang up my pants!! (I really need to get out more, hey? Crap, I just realised I did this on Saturday night. Yikes!)
My growing collection of scarves – I have a whole post to come on accessories!
Yesterday I got up and got dressed without giving it a seconds thought. This morning it was the same – I didn’t even register until I was already dressed that I was heading to a Fashion Trade Show this morning. No panicking – no freaking out about my hair (post on that coming too!); just dressed and ready to go.
Loving my new wardrobe, even if it’s mostly full of old clothes.
What’s in yours?

great work…it’s awesome being able to get out of bed in the morning and just get dressed without thinking about it. I’m looking forward to dresses and skirts weather at the moment. I tend to cull the ‘basics’ and hoard the nicer pieces in the hope that I can hand them on as vintage to my girls. Hope you enjoyed the trade show! Tatum xx

The trade show was amazing! Even though I’m not into trends I loved what I saw there! It is fantastic to be able to get up and just get dressed without stress, bring on summer!

I am the opposite of the “old Louisa”. I don’t have many clothes, and I throw things away far too readily, only to regret it later. Recently I purchased 5 items on ezibuy (all for $120 including postage) and it has changed my wardrobe so much! I wear one of these five items almost every day and I feel much more stylish. I had been waiting to lose the baby weight, but have decided I can still look and feel good in the meantime!
PS – I’m loving that green jacket.

Absolutely – why wait! As much as I love buying ‘special’ things I do also love a good bargain!

Before I was pregnant I had a massive clothes cull. I got so sick of having clothes that I didn’t really like, didn’t really fit me, weren’t really comfortable or didn’t flatter me. What I was left with was not that much but at least I knew that whatever was in my wardrobe I could wear. I’m thinking it’s time for another cull!

Love it Zoey and what a surprise that we should both be thinking like this LOL! Happy culling :)

Oh so need to do this, you are right. Nearly everything hanging up I’m not wearing in my hope to lose weight to fit back in. Time to go in a container in the spare room and just put the clothes that fit in the wardrobe. Thanks for your post!

We had to move rooms so Logan could have our room. I found this was a prefect time to decided what clothes I wanted. I put heaps of things I didn’t like or wouldn’t wear again in a garbage bag. That bag sat in Logan’s room until yesterday (about 8 months). I thought I would keep it there in case I wanted anything. I haven’t opened it once. Its going to the salvo’s today. Along with a lot of kids hand me downs that I will NEVER need again. I have restocked my wardrobe with clothes. My style has changed in 3 years.

I’ve so done that! Did it feel good to finally get rid of it all??

I love that green jacket too!! Green is my favourite colour!
As I work 4 days per week I need clothes suitable for work. Lately I have been wearing knit tops or plain black top with a nice flowy jacket type thing (I don’t have to wear a suit unless it’s a special occassion). I looked the other day and have about 10 shirts, mainly 3/4 lenght sleves just hanging in my wardrobe, not being worn. I used to wear them everyday, but have kinda moved on. I’m hesitant to throw them out, because what if I then have nothing to wear (quite unreasonable thinking, given I don’t think I’ve worn any of them all winter). And they are all cheap-ish kmart/target shirts anyway – so nothing amazing! I think I should just do it (and maybe keep 1 or 2 in case I need a shirt for a suit).
Do it!! And then go shopping :)

I’m just starting to stock my wardrobe with things I love, rather than things that I could afford. (Okay, so they’re usually the same thing, but whatever)
I am the least stylish person I know and you’ve just nicked my post idea because I had a whole post written (in my head) about style and me.

I loved your red jacket in Sydney the other week! And I laughed so hard at the thought that I’d written a post in your head – write it, I wanna read!!
