What Are You Wearing To #DPCon

Next Friday 150odd bloggers will gather together, from around the nation, in a hotel in Melbourne. We will network, some of us will be meeting for the first time and some for the first time in a while. We will hear from some fantastic bloggers, learn and share and be introduced into some brands too. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

One of the main topics of conversation about next Friday centers around what everyone is going to wear. I can appreciate this, last year the conference was on my birthday and I nabbed a last minute ticket and used my birthday as an excuse to get my hair done and buy a new outfit. I was nervous, that’s for sure.

What I very quickly realised when I arrived was that noone could give two hoots what I was wearing. I certainly can’t remember what anyone else was wearing! What I do remember is that the beautiful Sarah had made over 100 cupcakes in different flavors, though we’d never met, simply because it was my birthday and she is totally lovely. I remember meeting Tina Grey for the first time after chatting online for years. I remember meeting Veronica and Kim and feeling immediately welcomed by their genuine kindness and warmth. I remember meeting Kelly and her effusive enthusiasm and authenticity, traits I have come to increasingly admire over the past 12 months, and having the most fabulous lunchtime conversation with Cath.

Gosh it was fantastic to be in a room with other bloggers – people who “get it” – just fabulous.

I am really looking forward to the different events happening next place for that very same reason – catching up with so many beautiful women in person for a change! (Not to mention 2 nights in a hotel room, away from my beautiful but restless children overnight!)

What will I be wearing? Clothes. As much as I am loving a bit of fashion at the moment, there’s no part of me that is worried about “impressing” next Friday, this conference is just really not about that.

How about we make a deal – I promise not to show up in the nude if you promise the same?

Hands up if you stress about what you wear to events?
How do you deal with it?

p.s. Just before I went to publish this post I found Bianca’s latest blog post The Human Yo-Yo. If you’re feeling nervous about next week and how you look, please head over to her blog and hear her wise and honest words.

Thoughts on “What Are You Wearing To #DPCon

  1. Great post Louisa. I attend a lot of corporate events in my job and used to get stressed about what to wear to these black tie/formal things. As a result, I now have a wardrobe full of black dresses! But to be honest, I have never once had anyone comment on my outfit (other than my husband as I walk out the door – he is well trained!) and I couldn’t tell you what a single other person was wearing either.

My point? These things are so often in our heads and distract us from really enjoying the lead up to the event, and sometimes the event itself. It’s fun to chat about clothes, always fun, but there is no point losing sleep over it!

  2. I stress sometimes. I’ve been caught out a few times dressing inappropriately because I haven’t read the dress code. It’s a bit embarrassing but then it’s mostly when I’m with my closest friends and I know they really couldn’t care what I’m wearing.

I usually get over it pretty quickly. In my heart I know that clothes don’t matter at all, sometimes I just need to give myself a bit of a talking to.

For something like next week – not a care in the world. Not that I plan on turning up in a hessian sack but if anyone’s going to be accepting of a person despite their clothing it’s going to be a group of bloggers. So I have no idea what I’m wearing to the conference or the dinner or the pre-conference drinks. I’ll see what I feel like on the day!

  3. I’ve put a fair bit of thought into my clothes, but only because I live in Darwin and I never go out, so showing up in a singlet, shorts and things would probably not be adequate! ;)

Having said that, I’m wearing what I’m comfortable in. I’m just going to be me, and be comfortable with that. Can’t wait to see you!

  4. I am so with you on this… went shopping this morning and decided that I needed to not worry so much about what I was wearing and just bought something uber casual, in boring navy blue, because that is what I am comfortable in… I may even wear my stinky old $5 fake red converse…. because really I just want to catch up with old friends, meet new people and talk blogging…. don’t give a rats bottom about what anyone else is wearing so really shouldn’t care so much about what I am wearing either!

  5. I’ve given it a little thought and have come to the conclusion that I have to declutter my wardrobe tomorrow as there must be SOMETHING in there that’s comfortable, that fits, that has no holes or stains and packs into a very small bag (I’m lugging my luggage around the city on Thursday night). Then I realised as some have said, I shouldn’t worry too much as long as I’m comfortable in my own skin (promise I will cover that skin!) and that I have shoes I can dance in! Getting excited just realising it will be this time next week! I get to meet so many idols! Woohoo! Being an usher is going to help me come out of my shell too. See you there Louisa, in comfy shoes!
