49 lives lost,
650 homes destroyed,

so far.

Countless amounts of land, countless amounts of wildlife. All gone.

These are the tolls of the fires that have razed Victoria in the past 24 hours. Worse than the Ash Wednesday Fires in 1983 which took 47 lives in Victoria, 75 lives in total. They weren’t prepared then, they were prepared now…imagine if they hadn’t been.

The community where our church has visited every year for the past three years for our annual camp? 80% destroyed.

An accident? Not entirely.

There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind, that in a land like ours, fire-fighters are our heroes. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you so much for what you do.

If you don’t know what I am talking about it. If you don’t live in a place where summer fires are a cause of real anxiety and concern each year. Go here.

Thoughts on “Can you imaging losing everything?

  1. it really is scary isent it??ive been watching the news and the tol just keeps on rising. Its just heartbreaking. I just pray we can be of some use to people that have been devestated.
We are only about 15-20 mins from Kilmore area, so its also scary thinking about what would happen if we had to evacuate, whats important to us etc. Certainly makes you think about priorities in life.

  2. It is really horrible to read about, I can’t imagine being threatened by such massive devastation. I hope the fires are contained soon and people can rest easier and start their recovery and mourning. And I hope that people aren’t responsible for starting the fires. Unbelievable.

  3. We also have been listening to and watching the news. It’s so shocking and the devistations is HUGE. Mom and Dad have been in Melbourne of a few days now and were out with friends yesterday (the whole day) and when they got home, they didn’t have one. Everything was destroyed including, they think, their two cats. Her and her husband have only what they were wearing, nothing else.

My poor Mom felt awful that they had had them out all day and now they have lost their home. However the lady said that it was meant to be. If they were at home, could they have gotten out and if not they would be another number on the death list.

I do feel for everyone and we know having lived in Llandudno that when a fire hits, there is no stopping it. And when you only have one way in and out of the suburb it’s even more scary.

Let’s hope no more lives are lost.
